As of today, I have officially signed up for a womens' rec soccer league in Brunswick. I'm both excited and terrified about this. Excited, because HOORAY! I'll be playing soccer again! Terrified, because I haven't played for over 10 years and 50 pounds ago. (Yes, fifty. Ughf. That's such a huge number. I don't think I look like I've gained 50 pounds since high school...damn...Well, anyway, playing soccer will help me get some of that off.)
It's super for-real, too. The coordinator asked me for my contact info, t-shirt size, and what my two preferred positions would be. EEK! TWO positions?! I've only ever played defense and she wants two positions?! Midfielders do way too much running and I don't want to die during my first time back out, so I told her the second position would be forward. I also indicated that I'm not very fast, so defense is number one.
I have so much to do now. I have to get into semi-playing shape and buy shin guards and a ball and new sports bras... I'm sure that my personal trainer can give me some tips on how to get conditioned and NOT get hurt. April 21st is my first game, so there isn't a ton of time, I'm going to have to be going at it 6 days a week! Does anyone out there have any suggestions? I'm trying to remember all that I did back in high school. I will need a yard for most of it...maybe I'll use Edgewater Park or something for sprinting and foot skill practice. (Who am I kidding? I don't have foot skills. I never did!) Maybe the lifting I've been doing will help with my speed. So many things running through my brain!!
This will be a good first step. Any friends who want to condition with me are more than welcome. I'll need all the help I can get!
