I was thinking about this yesterday. I would like to start setting "little goals" for each day to help me along in this new chapter. With all of the other things I have to do during the day, these little goals with be small things that I do that will make a huge difference, like doing one load of laundry, changing the bed sheets, or taking out the trash before trash day. Sounds like it wouldn't be difficult, but I'm often surprised at how these things tend to pile up on me and become overwhelming to me. If I can do one chore a day, I'm sure I can get caught up on the apartment in no time. Finding time to do these small chores may be a challenge on days like today (I'm meeting a friend for drinks after my workout). Not sure how to compromise yet...
Fitness goals are another thing that I am working on achieving. Today's fitness goal is continuing with my soccer conditioning. Mikey (my personal trainer) advised me to alternate forward/backward pedaling on the elliptical for 30 minutes, 30 second sprints with a 2 minute walking rest for as long as I can stand it, and fast high-knees for a minute at a time. The elliptical has to be done in a gym, of course, but the sprinting and the rest can be done outside. I think that if I tried sprinting on a treadmill, I'd likely fall on my face and the belt would push me off the rest of the way.
I guess, wish me luck. If you have any tips on how to make time for the "little goals," please leave a comment!
UPDATE: Tonight's "little goal" will be to find my passport to fill out my I-9 tomorrow. Eep!!
The sprinting/walking thing sounds like high intensity interval training... if it is, it's great for both cardio and major fat burnage. Just be sure to have always a good pair of running shoes and take care of your knees!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the knee thing is why he also recommended the elliptical instead of the treadmill for the whole thing. I've never had any real knee issues before, but I definitely don't want to start. I'm way older now than I was the last time I played, it may be difficult for me to remember that.
